I’m reaching out with some difficult news about a much loved member of our Long Reef team, our Head Teaching Professional, Michael Infanti.
Michael has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer, following the discovery of a tumour just a week after his 37th birthday in late April. He has already started chemotherapy with the goal of shrinking the tumour so it can be surgically removed.
Michael is approaching this fight with the same resilience, optimism and determination that he brings to every lesson, every day. His positive attitude is nothing short of inspiring.
Over the past 15 years at Long Reef, Michael has done far more than help people with their swings. He’s made a real and lasting impact on the lives of so many Members, introducing hundreds of new golfers to Long Reef, as well as working miracles with so many long time Members to achieve goals they once thought were out of reach.
The response from our Long Reef Members so far has been overwhelming. Michael is fully aware of the support behind him and he’s incredibly grateful, it means more than you might realise.
However, we do ask Members to please refrain from messaging him directly at this time. He’s focusing all his energy on treatment and recovery, and we want to respect the space he needs for that fight.
The sudden nature of the diagnosis and the intensity of treatment have impacted Michael and his wife Chiara’s ability to work in their previous capacity for the short to medium term. Our goal is to ease the financial burden so that Michael and Chiara can focus entirely on his recovery.
A fundraising event will be organised following Michael’s first bout of chemotherapy, however in the short term we’re launching an online raffle today, closing on Friday 4th July, with 100% of proceeds going directly to Michael and Chiara to assist with rent, bills, and everyday living costs for the immediate future.
